Sassafras Mountain is the highest point in South Carolina and stands at 3,554 ft above sea level. This elevation puts Mt. Sassafras at position 29 for the highest peaks in the United States. The peak prominence for Sassafras is 754 ft. and its isolation is 9.29 miles. Mt. Sassafras is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains. An observation tower recently opened at the summit.
